The Seven Sisters & Beachy Head

Your 3 hour round trip takes you past some iconic landmarks and places of interest on the Sussex Coast. Leaving Brighton Marina you will pass the world famous Roedean school for Girls followed by St Dunstan’s at Ovingdean, a training and rehabilitation centre for blind veterans. Next, we will pass Rottingdean, an historic village with a smugglers history before Newhaven port which has daily ferry crossings to Dieppe.

After this you will see the stunning Seven Sisters, a series of bright white chalk cliffs, Haven Brow, Short Brow, Rough Brow, Brass Point, Flagstaff Brow, Bailey’s Hill and Went Hill.

The Seven Sisters are relatively free of anachronistic modern development and are also allowed to erode naturally. As a result, the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head remain a bright white colour, whereas the White Cliffs of Dover are protected due to it being an important port and are therefore increasingly covered in vegetation and are greening as a result.

The Seven Sisters Cliffs are home to an abundance of wildlife and occasional film crews! They have been used as a location for both TV and Movies such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Atonement and Mr. Holmes.

The 2019 film Hope Gap, starring Bill Nighy and Annette Bening was against the backdrop of Seaford Head, and is named after the distinctive area of chalk cliff between Seaford and Cuckmere Haven.

The Cliffs will lead us to the magnificent Beachy Head the highest chalk cliff in
Britain standing at 530 feet high. At the bottom you will see the famous red and white stripped lighthouse guiding boats away from the treacherous coastline. Although it has a dark side it remains an iconic and beautiful landmark.

Again, pack a camera and a picnic so you can really enjoy your tour before returning to Brighton Marina with plenty of memories and a full camera storage card!
